Bettie Page in hospital

Steve Brewster, Scoutmaster of the Bettie Scouts of America got a call from the hospital at 10:26am cst, 12/26/07. Bettie Page has taken a turn for the worse.

She has fallen weaker and having trouble breathing and they believe she has pneumonia. She is 84.

Offer a prayer, if you are so-inlcined, or at least think some warm thoughts...

I only know it should be color, cause it says "IN COLOR"

The Halloween Bettie Curse!

I've had this Bettie-esque haircut going on three years now and every year around this time I have people coming up to me and saying, "you're going to be Bettie Page for Halloween aren't you?" Or, "I know, you're getting ready to be Morticia Addams" and the most random, "there goes Cleopatra!" Usually none of them are correct, I was Nurse Bettie one year, and I dressed as Cleopatra in the 4th grade, but no, I'm not going to be Bettie for halloween! I've had this hair for years, its actually my boring hum-drum everyday do, but I think that any costume I decide on is going to be doomed. Seriously, I 'm going to get mistaken as "Rainbow Brite Bettie" or "Ballerina Bettie" or even "Half-Naked Playa Bunny Bettie." It occured to me recently when I saw my dad and he said, "Oh look you're getting ready to be Bettie for Halloween again, aren't ya?" No, dad, I'm getting off of work, that's all, plain and simple! And that's a man whose seen me frequently year round. I love Bettie, but my creativity goes beyond Bettie every year for halloween!

What a fascinating woman. She inspires me to just be who I am, a bellydancer, knowing that my sensuality on display is a good thing, and not to be frowned upon.
Something about Bettie was so innocent and fresh, even at her raunchiest. It always looked like she was making fun and not being so serious, like Playboy or other newer raunch is.
Like she couldn't understand what was so sexy about wearing a corset and stockings while holding a whip. She just ....was sexy without trying to be and without caring about it so much.
What a woman!

Bettie Vs. Dita

Ok, opening pandora's box here....

I hear people say all the time that Dita is the new Bettie, and things of similar nature.
As beautiful as Dita is, and as much as she is doing for the art of burlesque, i still dont feel the comparison is justified.
Does anyone agree?
Personally i think Dita looks quite fake alot of the time. Still pretty by all means, in that porcelain doll sort of way, but Bettie has something so real and dynamic about her.
Thoughts?

I saw this Betty Page TV Bio a few years ago and it said that she got religious and gave up modeling and tore up all her photos and everything. She was interviewed in silhouette and she seemed honored that people thought so much about her. I was wondering (how much of that was true) and how much of her modeling photos were lost to time and what has survived.
